Community Transit Challenge

Outdoor Motion Bike Shop won the second quarter’s Community Worksite Wellness Challenge – Community Transit.  They averaged a score of 2.65 transit activity points for four weeks, which equates to about 45 minutes of physical activity DURING their work day.  That’s right, folks!  So it seems that they are not just selling and servicing equipment for you to move.  They actually do a lot of moving too!

We all know it’s important to get exercise in each week, but most of us put in that time before or after our work day or on our days off.  Being physically active and eating healthy during your work day is a great way to lower your stress level, increase family time outside of the office and decrease the waistline.  That’s what our worksite wellness efforts are all about!  Oh, and the friendly local business to business competition just adds another layer of fun.

Ridgewater College, Faith Lutheran Church, Citizens Bank and Trust, Hutchinson Health, Southwest Initiative Foundation, and BusinessWare Solutions also participated in the community wide challenge.  All participating businesses received pedometers for their staff at the beginning of the challenge.  In addition, for winning the challenge, Outdoor Motion Bike Shop also received a worksite activity kit that included resistance bands, ankle weights and a massager.

Let’s Ride

Hutchinson’s first National Bike to Work Day on May 17th was a big success!

More than 75 bikers stopped for a free breakfast at Library Square that morning on their way to work.  With a few bikers coming as far as Darwin and Silver Lake, a variety of bikers and bikes joined together in the park to alternatively commute for a day.

By request, Heart of Hutch has scheduled monthly Bike to Work Days through September to keep the momentum going.  Are we still offering a free breakfast?  Absolutely!  Make biking to work a habit and get rewarded with breakfast at the park!

See you on August 16th!
